Web and
Social Media

Striving to contribute to the publication as much as I can, I always try to go the extra mile by creating additional social media content. Creating content for social media and web is never required, however I think it provides a crucial interactive element for viewers. While we release publications monthly, web and social media content can be updated more timely, staying on trend. Given my passion, comfortability and talents with digital media, I enjoy creating content for the these online displays of North Pointe including editing and creating enjoyable videos, stepping outside of the 'normal' content found on a newspaper's social medias.  Keep scrolling to view my contributions to web and social media.

Story and Infographic

I included this piece because it was the first story I had written in the class that required interviews. I worked on this story with the editor-in-chief. The strengths in this life story include that it flows nicely and that my partner and myself were able to take not the most exciting topic and make it more entertaining to read. A weakness present in the story is that I had trouble finding statistics for making my infographic. It was easy to design, but finding information was difficult since a lot of the search results were outdated. I learned from this piece that I really enjoy interviewing people. For this story, I had to reach out to three different people. I liked asking them to elaborate their responses and transcribing the interviews onto a document. I also really liked seeing how my writing flowed into the quotes of the people I interviewed. A goal for the future connecting to this story is that I want to make another type of infographic, similar to the one below, yet make it interactive for readers to click around instead of just viewing.

Spotify Playlist

I made this playlist full of the best songs, in my opinion, released in 2021. I chose to make this playlist because I wanted to create other types of projects in this class besides writing. I also really liked the idea and thought it would be fun. I am proud of the way it turned out and wanted to include it in my portfolio. Some strengths in my playlist include that there is a variety of artists present. I also am proud of the playlist cover I designed on Procreate. It fits in well with the theme of the playlist. Something I learned from this piece, that could also be seen as a weakness, is the difficulty of finding appropriate songs. This allowed me to learn that I had to be patient and try brainstorming another method to find the songs.  My goals for the future connecting to playlists include eye-catching art and promoting the playlist on social media platforms.

Trends on Pointe

UGGs

Collectively, the NP editors decided to go into the new year with new goals. Each class had the editors write down their future aspirations for the paper or what we could improve on. Only one or two issues after the board was made, we have made so much improve as a team. I noted creating resources for interns feeling lost in the class. I am so proud of how far we have come and am so excited to see how we will continue to grow our publication.

Trends on Pointe

Water Bottles: Owala, Hydroflask & Stanley Cup

This was my first time taking on a "Trends on Pointe" segment. I was inspired to create the video because it directly correlated to a review I had written in the first issue. This added an additional interactive element for viewers and showed that the products reviewed are both popular and relevant among GPN. In the future, I hope to improve the video quality, so it isn't ruined during the uploading process.

GPN March Madness

Social Media Video

Back in 2022, or my sophomore year, I created a March Madness hype video, feeling full circle as I am currently writing a feature story on the tournament. I really enjoy digital media, specifically editing and creating video content. I was enthused to create a video about March Madness and people's predictions, mainly because it is something I am interested in. This video asks students at North what team they think will win March Madness. My strengths of this project include nice background sound, crisp audio, a fun introduction inspired by ESPN and making the team's logo appear in the bottom corner. For weaknesses, I want to make the video longer in the future and get more diverse clips of people answering. Additionally, I wish to improve the sound.

Join North Pointe

MIPA Social Media Video Winner 2021-2022

I'd like to thank the generation I was born in for my knack of social media. It allows me to have confidence when trying new things in a digital media setting. This project, something that wasn't super special among everything I have created, ended up being recognized by MIPA for its outstanding achievement of Social Media Video Winner. I was so happy to be recognized for my innovative digital media and video content I added to North Pointe's social media feed. This video was made to display what being in North Pointe is like and why people should join. I am so proud of this video regardless of its achievements.

The North Pointe Spring Bake Off

Social Media Video

As much as I love creating digital media, I love being innovative and the first to do something. When I got the idea to do a bake off video, I knew it was going to be incredibly challenging. However, I refused to let that stop me. I love trying new things and overcoming obstacles. The hardest part of this project was the planning, as the editing was a breeze. I had to convince three contestants to participate, schedule time for the contestants to bake and find a time that both the judges and contestants could meet at my house to film the results. Although it was a little tricky and even more work than I intended, I believe it was so worth it and added so much to North Pointe's feed. I truly hope to make more media like this in the future.

SHAKIN' IT UP

Social Media Video for St. Patrick's Day

My partner and friend thought the North Pointe social media page could use a little spice. When story planning for the March issue, we couldn't help but wish to brainstorm something never done before. After bouncing off of each other's ideas, we both knew March means Shamrock Shakes and that we had to create a video related to the seasonal treat. This led us to a conversation laughing on how McDonald's ice cream machine's are always broken. BOOM! Inspiration had struck! We were going to teach North Pointe's viewers how to make the seasonal treat! This video was such a cute contrast from the feed's regular content and I would love to make more videos like it in the future.

Norsemen Wrapped

Social Media Video

I chose to make this video because I have taken TV production classes in the past and have experience with video editing platforms. Creating digital media is something I really enjoy, so I was very excited to make this video and include it in my portfolio. It is about the students at GPN and their most listened-to song in 2021. My strengths of this project were that I included many students for diverse song genres and had the album cover of the song they chose to appear in the bottom corner. For weaknesses, I think next time I should try to make the audio include less background noise. This piece was uploaded to social media and I learned that longer videos add a fun contrast to the feed. In the future, I would like to make more videos and use microphones for better audio. This project correlates to the playlist I mentioned above.
