Why NP and TV Production?

What's the deal with journalism and broadcast? Did I even learn anything?

Here's my testimonial:

To say North Pointe and Norsemen News contend towards my best lifetime decisions seems incredibly superficial, however it's the truth. Taking journalism and TV Production has not only expanded my skill set but has shaped me into the person I am today.

Starting North Pointe my sophomore year, I didn't realize how much I loved or appreciated this class until it was gone. This class didn't fit with my schedule so I had junior year without the course. I felt the same way about TV production. I took TV Production freshman and junior year, severely missing it during sophomore year. I had to pick one course over the other during junior and sophomore year as they didn't fit into my jam-packed schedule of classes. Forced to make an incredibly difficult choice, I chose to alternate courses each year. It wasn't until my senior year where my schedule finally allowed me to take both.

Walking away from these courses, I am so grateful to have developed as a journalist and broadcaster. I am especially grateful for how my communication skills have grown. Through journalism and broadcast, interviewing has forced me outside of my comfort zone and into conversations with people I never imagined having comfortability to approach. I have learned  proper communication with my partners, faculty, staff, community members and more. I can determine the length of conversations and alter my tone. I am excited to see my communications skills progress further and utilize my current skill set adapted from these courses interviewing for a job, meeting new people or speaking with a professor.

I am so incredibly grateful for everything I have learned through North Pointe and Norsemen News. I feel more prepared than ever to take on the world. I know wherever I end up, I am fully capable of overcoming whatever stands in my way. I want to thank Ms. Dunn and Mr. Stackpoole, for everything.

Signing off,

Gabriella Miller
